Brown Paper Bag Stairs

Hello everyone I have a 100 year old home and 3 small kids plus a limited budget...

I was pinning one day and came across a post about brown paper bag flooring... Well my stair case was horrible and I thought why not so I gave it a go...

The first time I did it they were way too watery / glue... and I used an oil based stain, yeah that was bad, it stunk for a week...
I finally asked the paint guy at home depot if they made a stain that didn't stink... Water base!!! I choose Red Mahogany and I learned that using wood glue before you put the brown paper down made it stick for sure, but be careful because wood glue doesn't stain...

I took a lot longer than I thought, just for me though my carpel tunnel did not like all the nail / staple pulling I did lol we had the bottom picture for a good month before I decided to finally finish today and the risers need a good nother coat of paint plus a wax, but I am done for the day lol :P

It's not perfect but way better than it was! And it holds up pretty good, a little slippery, (my hubby slipped going down them and was like "you made them too slippery!" lol)
